  1. I like Sally Fields in the TV version. It’s so peppy and carefree. I never would have read all that sex into it, even though I can see how you could. Thanks for the review!

    • My mom immediately thought I was talking about the Sally Field show when I told her I was watching Gidget. Maybe because I’ve done so much film analysis but the sexual theme seemed so blatant and prevalent…maybe it’s my overactive college brain (or I’ve seen too many movies). Thanks for reading!

      • Haha! I know what you mean! It’s impossible for me NOT to apply a feminist lens to the films I watch and I blame college for that, definitely!

  5. I would encourage people to read the book. It had a huge impact when it was published. It outsold Jack Kerouac’s “On The Road”. Though the book never states it outright, the subtext suggests that ‘Gigdet’ did indeed lose her virginity – several times!

    • Interesting, then again I think I’d enjoy Gidget more than I did On the Road! I knew Gidget got around, I mean she was the only girl in a group of guys. Thanks for reading!
