  1. I agree with you that the special effects in this film are pretty rubbish. It doesn’t even feel like a 1951 film – more like 1851! But that’s British cinema for you. I think this is probably my favorite adaptation (besides A MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL) because the acting does such a good job of getting the audience in the mood of the whole thing. I mean, you actually feel Scrooge’s meanness, then his desperation, then the wonderful transformation. The scenes with the maid are hilarious. I also think the Cratchetts were very well cast. I give this version a B as a film, but an A as my favorite Scrooge!
