  1. Nice write up :)

I agree that this isn’t all it’s cracked up to be but Lugosi pulls it through. Have you seen the Spanish language version? That’s technically a much better film but doesn’t have the presence of Lugosi. Combine the two and you’d have a great film!

  2. Interesting perspective. It does drag and has not aged as well as one might like. I must disagree on one point, though. The most creative set design from this Universal period (IMO) is from The Black Cat.

    • I really should have watched Black Cat after this. It’s been awhile since I watched, and I did remember comparing the set design to Dracula. It wouldn’t surprise me if Black Cat had the edge, especially considering the storyline was far more taboo.

    • I want to see Son of Frankenstein (to complete the Frankenstein trilogy). My professor says it’s where the series becomes hokey, but I’m willing to give it a shot. Didn’t know it had Lugosi!

      • I disagree. “Son of Frankenstein” is solid and rounds out the first three films in the series very well. Lugosi is the highlight of the film for sure.

The next film “Ghost of Frankenstein” is where the series starts to decline for me…but even that is still a fun film. Lugosi is back as Ygor in it, so that helps.
