Tiny Natalie is excited to get Christmas season started, and for the first time in Journeys in Classic Film history (yes, there’s history being cemented) I’ll be looking at a few great gift ideas available now and coming soon. Throughout the week, mixed in with my 25 Days of Christmas reviews, I’ll post reviews of a few items mentioned in my gift guide. I’ll include links to certain items via Amazon, and any purchases you make through the blog turn into a few dollars for me to spend on my fellow film fans this holiday season. Feel free to recommend additional items in the comments section!
Warner Archive: Warner Archive has put out a huge amount of manufactured-on-demand DVDs and Blu-rays, many never available in any format before. This year alone, I’ve been very fortunate to review their products and discovered classics which are nestled comfortably on my shelf. Here’s just a few of the movies I recommend purchasing, as well as other noteworthy releases. You can purchase these via Amazon or Warner Archive’s website.
Kino Classic: Kino continues to release beautiful restorations of legendary films, complete with in-depth bonus content. Their 2013 output has been diverse, ranging from foreign films to horror, and all treated with the same respect to their restoration and transfer.
Twilight Time: Similar to Kino, Twilight Time puts out exquisite restorations of classic, and soon-to-be, films with many being released on any format for the first time. Their output is diverse, and limited to 3,000 copies for each movie released, but worth it if you want well-done Blu-ray copies of movies which would never warrant one through larger studios.
20th Century Fox: Fox has two DVD/Blu-ray distribution arms between this and their Fox Cinema Archives collection of manufactured-on-demand content. I’ll include a mix of both. The bonus content on their discs is limited, but they make up for it with beautiful transfers which are simply breathtaking.
Books: What about the person who enjoys reading about classic movies? Well, I’ve made sure not to forget them. Several of these books, I have reviewed and thus they definitely review the Kristen seal of approval!
I'm a college student getting my Master's in English, but dreams of getting an additional degree in Film. I'm a movie reviewer for several sites, but I also write classic film reviews for several other sites. I stretch myself pretty thin these days. You can usually find me at a bookstore, or a movie theater. I dream of the day when the two are combined. I base a lot of my friendships on favorite movies.
