This month’s Veronica inductees have starred in movies together, and TCM is actually honoring one of the winners today as part of Summer Under the Stars. Can you guess who just snagged a Veronica?
James Stewart and I have had a rocky road. His everyman persona and just general “aw, shucks” demeanor turned me off. It didn’t help that Alfred Hitchcock made him downright unlikable for me in several features. In time I’ve softened on the man – or just hit on the right movies. The five features securing his nomination: After the Thin Man, Call Northside 777, Vivacious Lady, Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation, and You Can’t Take It With You.
The second winner was Stewart’s co-star in two features, the lovely Jean Arthur. I’ve enjoyed Jean’s spunk and elegance in several comedies and dramas. The films securing her win: Too Many Husbands, The Ex-Mrs. Bradford, The More the Merrier, Only Angels Have Wings, and Mr. Deeds Goes to Town.
You’ll find links to their reviews, as well as past winners in the Veronicas section of the header above.
