Veronica Inductees for October 2014

Veronicas

Two new stars have been deemed worthy enough to win Veronicas this month: one of whom is an icon in almost every genre of film, and the other is the most beautiful woman of the Golden Era. Who nabbed a spot in the Hall of Fame? As always, you can visit the Veronicas section at the top of the page where past and current winners are listed, including links to any reviews of their I’ve written.

Actor Claude Rains

Claude Rains is an unassuming fellow, but his body of work is diverse and entertaining, regardless of whether he’s playing a hero or a villain. Rains, on the surface, seems self-effacing but that just allowed him to unleash the fury of his performances. He was nominated for his roles in Notorious, Casablanca, The Invisible Man, The Adventures of Robin Hood, and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

GeneTierney

Her impossible beauty will never be recreated in film and it would be easy for me to say that’s the only reason Gene Tierney secures her Veronica win. However, that would belittle her talent in both comedy and drama where she was able to create characters that were heartwarming, challenge, real and illusory. The five films securing her win: Laura, Heaven Can Wait, Leave Her to Heaven, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, and The Mating Season.
