Summer Under the Stars Blogathon Hosted by Journeys in Classic Film! – UPDATED
We may be knee deep in The July Five, but I’m already thinking about August. Long-time readers of the site know I haven’t hosted a blogathon since the Universal Backlot Blogathon a few years back. In reading Twitter, I noticed long-time Summer Under the Stars blogathon hosts, the lovely Jill Blake of The Black Maria and Michael Nazarewycz of Scribe Hard, weren’t doing a month-long tribute. With that hole obviously needing filling
I put my foot in my mouth I stepped up to the plate and volunteered to host this year’s month-long blogathon! So between August 1st and 31st I will be hosting the Summer Under the Stars blogathon.
The fine folks at Warner Archive will be giving me several DVDs and Blu-rays to give away to blog participants and #TCMParty friends. I’ll give exact details on the 30th but that’s all the more reason for you to sign up!
What do I need from you right now, your commitment. If you’re interested in participating, shoot me an email (journeysinclassicfilm@gmail.com) or leave a comment below with your blog name and a way to get in touch. On July 30th-31st I’ll be announcing the participating blogs, any and all prizes offered (as well as rules), as well as other activities being put-on. Since this is Summer Under the Stars feel free to write on as many actors/actresses, films as you want. As for the content, the sky’s the limit. If you want to review a film, write a profile on the star, create a Top 10 list, so long as it’s related to the person on that day, you’re golden. I know this will be a great event and I appreciate everyone willing to devote their time!

You’re good to go. Do you have a certain star(s)/day(s) in mind?
I have two I’d like to tackle: John Wayne in McQ (8/19) and Virginia Bruce in one of my all time favorites,The Invisible Woman (8/25)
You’re good to go! Thanks!
Hey Kristen, I’m in: secondsightcinema.com. Thinking Mitchum, thinking The Lusty Men. Thanks for hosting this, looking forward to the month! Need something to fill in the hole when Summer of Darkness ends. 😦
Lesley, you’re all good to go (and you might like the Mitchum related prize I’m giving away during the event). If you want to send me an email to journeysinclassicfilm@gmail.com that way I have your info on-hand that’d be great!
Hey Kristen —
Making it official here: I’m joining along! This weekend I will look over the schedule again and give you a tentative list of what days I’ll be blogging. 🙂

Awesome! Just email me what day(s)/star(s) you want to cover, that way I have it all in one place!
Hi Kristen, I’d like to Teresa Wright on August 4, in “Shadow of a Doubt” – if it’s not already spoken for. 🙂
You’re all good to go! Thanks so much for participating!
I’d love to do a post on Fred Astaire for his day, August 5th. I’m envisioning a list of “must see” dances (one from each scheduled film) along with reasons why you must catch the dance and some background info on the choreography. I’m at ClassicReelGirl.com.

Hi Kristen. I would like to do something on Barbara Stanwyck. My blog is: In The Good Old Days Of Classic Hollywood.
The lovely Barbara, unfortunately, wasn’t picked to be one of this year’s Stars. Is there someone else from this year’s crop you’d like to write on?
Would any of Barbara’s movies qualify? Like somebody that starred with her in a certain movie on the Summer Of Stars list? If so, I would write about any of them if one of them qualifiers?
I haven’t looked through each individual star’s films for the month so I’m unsure if Barbara factors into any of them. With that being said, if you do land on a film I’d prefer the review be geared towards the star being honored as opposed to Stanwyck herself. I’d say look through their summer.tcm.com lineup and see if there are any films that catch your eye. Thanks!
I’ve had a look through the schedule, and see that Gary Cooper is on the list. Would I be able to write about “Meet John Doe”, and focus more on Gary Cooper’s performance, but mention Stanywyck as well? Gary Cooper gave one of his greatest performances in that.
That’s perfect! You’re all good to go! Thanks for joining!
Hi Kristen. Thanks for adding that to the roster. Would I be able to do something on Greta Garbo as well on August 26th?
You’re definitely good for Garbo! I’ll put you on the schedule!
Thanks Kristen.
I’d like to do a post on Robert Walker on the 9th – a bio with special focus on Strangers on a Train. I will also do something on Marlene Dietrich on the 22nd but, since I see someone else has already chosen her for this blogathon, I’ll make my post independent of this blogathon, if you’d prefer.
No worries, so long as you’re doing one person who’s empty you’re more than welcome to jump on and discuss another popular star so I’ll put you down for both Walker and Dietrich. Thanks for joining!
Thanks, Kristen!
I’m in! I have a great idea for a post about John Wayne.

Rich, you’re in! I’ll be sure to put you down for John Wayne. Thanks for joining!
We would love to do NORTH BY NORTH WEST! 😀
From Team Bartilucci, of course! ❤
What day would that be? TCM isn’t showing the film according to my schedule, and while that’s fine, just would like to know which star it’d be honoring. Thanks!!
