This post we’ll show you one thing… Louis Armstrong is a definite blindspot for not only yours truly, but for the site as well.
We really do feel sheepish…
So, with that being said, performers like Armstrong are great choices for TCM to give airtime throughout the month. I mean, who among us hasn’t seen most (if not all?!) of Cary Grant’s filmography? If a day like this succeeds in allowing people to scratch some blindspots off their lists, TCM has done their job. There’s such joy in discovering something amazing one hasn’t watched before.

High Society (1956)
If You Watch One Movie:
As someone who is horrendously under viewed as it relates to this talented performer, I do have to shill for High Society. The movie is a fun musical remake of The Philadelphia Story… heck, the Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra pairing speaks for itself. This is a must-see for fans of not only 1950s musicals, but also its talented cast (Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and Louis Armstrong to name a few).
However, as a first time watch, I’m excited for Cabin in the Sky (1943). With a cast that includes Eddie ‘Rochester’ Anderson and Lena Horne opposite Armstrong (all under the direction of the incomparable Vincente Minelli!) it’s sure to be a fascinating watch.
